Do plumbers with websites make better lovers??

So we may be stretching the truth a little when we say a new website will make you a better lover or turn you into a modern day Adonis. But if you really love your business, you wouldn’t be using anyone else for your new plumbing website.

So let me lay our cards out…

Did you know???

There are a ridiculously small percentage of plumbers that have:

A) a good website and B) any form of online presence.

Who cares, right?

Well you might care when you learn that 76% of the population turn to Google to find plumbing services. Here are just a couple local searches for example;

  • Plumber Sydney: 24,200 searches
  • Plumber Melbourne: 18,000 searches
Plumber Brisbane: 16,200 searches
  • Plumber Adelaide: 8,800
  • Plumber Perth: 14,700
  • Plumber Darwin: 1,180
  • Plumber Hobart: 1,440
Plumber ACT: 2,620

Now imagine how many searches there are for the really competitive terms! So what does that mean in English?


That is probably not a surprise to many of you. If you’ve been in the game for a while and used to advertise in the phone book, you would have noticed a significant drop in calls from directories in the last 10 years.
But there are some other interesting facts. 75% of plumbing related websites do not rank on any of their main search terms! So for example, if I went to Google and typed in “plumber+your city”, your website probably doesn’t appear. If it does, good on you, let’s talk about going for some more competitive searches. Basically, the only way that most plumbing websites come up in Google is if you type in their business name exactly (this is called an exact match query). Of the plumbing companies that do have their sites ranked, 90% are unhappy with the results. This is crazy considering that plumbing is actually the most searched trade online!

Why do you think this is?

There are a couple of reasons, but the main reason is that in an attempt to save money, some companies “try” to do it themselves. This is a great way to save money in the short term… however it actually ends up costing them way more than if they paid someone to do it properly. You’ve seen it yourself when people try to do their own plumbing and end up doing more damage than good! It’s the same with plumbers doing online marketing. That little bit you save today, could cost you heaps tomorrow.
Below is an example of a Google AdWords campaign gone wrong!



To illustrate my point, I typed in the term “plumbing courses” into Google. Now obviously anyone who types in this term has no intention whatsoever of spending a pretty penny with a plumber. They are looking to become a plumber, train an employee or something like that.
Yet the company that appears right at the top of the page in the yellow section (Google Adwords) is a Plumbing business.

Big deal, huh?

We’ll here is the catch. If I didn’t know any better (and trust me most people don’t) clicking on that link would cost that guy around $5-$6. Considering that they are ranked at the top of the search, this could cost them over $5,000 over the course of a year.
Furthermore, as the click budget gets swallowed up by bad searches you are also losing potential clients who would spend money with you. The real value of this loss is hard to estimate. So that little bit of money you saved doing your own pay per click campaign, has cost you thousands, if not tens of thousands in bad clicks and lost work.
This is merely one example of many keyword combinations that can go wrong, potentially costing you a lot of money. This is also what sets us apart from our competitors.
